Andrea Albert Fonseca is a Research Assistant at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), where she works in the Health and Climate research group within the Adaptation Lab. Her research examines the interconnected relationships between humans and nature in socioecological systems, with a focus on how these dynamics shape the health and resilience of both ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
Committed to actionable science, Andrea employs transdisciplinary approaches and participatory methodologies to co-produce knowledge with stakeholders—bridging gaps between research, policy, and local practice. Currently, she supports research activities for the BlueAdapt project, investigating climate-related health risks in coastal and transitional waters, with a focus on the Bay of Plentzia and the Butroe River in the Basque Country.
Andrea holds a BSc in Environmental Biology (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2019) and an Erasmus Mundus MSc in Marine Environment and Resources (Université de Bordeaux, Universidad del País Vasco, Université de Liège, 2022). Her thesis examined the impacts of climate change on invasive algae in Madeira, Portugal.
