Davey is the workpackage lead for WP4 on modelling viral pathogens and AMR genes in coastal waters within BlueAdapt.
He has 25 years’ experience working in following the fate and behaviour of viral and bacterial pathogens in terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments. He uses a combination of mechanistic mathematical models, field monitoring and laboratory experiments to predict the risk of human exposure to infectious agents in the environment. He also leads the national wastewater monitoring programme for public health in Wales. Most of his work has focused on the viral pathogens Norovirus, Adenovirus, SARS-CoV-2, Hepatitis, the human faecal marker CrAssphage and the bacterial pathogens E. coli O157, Campylobacter, Salmonella and associated AMR genes. He advises Welsh Government on environmental-related public health issues. He has published over 600 journal papers and is an ISI Highly Cited Researcher.
