Vladimir Kaberdin

Dr. Vladimir Kaberdin is an Ikerbasque Research Professor at the Department of Immunology, Microbiology and Parasitology (University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU). He also works as a senior researcher at the Research Centre for Experimental Marine Biology & Biotechnology (PiE-EHU).

As part of the BlueAdapt team, he is doing research in microbial ecology focusing on the impact of climate change on microbial biodiversity. He also studies how different Vibrio species adjust and become more pathogenic as their environments change.

Dr. Kaberdin has published more than 65 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. His publications are widely cited by other experts in the field (H-index: 32, Google Scholar). His current and future research aims are to (i) understand the post-transcriptional mechanisms and molecular interactions that enable microorganisms to efficiently respond to and cope with environmental challenges, and (ii) apply this knowledge in biotechnology and antibacterial drug design.

Throughout his career, Dr. Kaberdin has participated in numerous research projects and has served as Principal Investigator for several national research projects funded by research agencies in Austria (FWF) and Spain (MICINN; MINECO). He now leads two projects (Refs.: PIBA_2021_1_0047 and IT1657-22) awarded by the Basque Government. In addition, he contributes to one national project (HOBE, ref. TED2021-132109B-C21) and one international project (BlueAdapt, Ref.: 101057764), funded by MICINN (Spain) and the European Union, respectively.
