Estibaliz Baroja

Estibaliz Baroja is a PhD student at BC3 (Basque Centre for Climate Change). She works in the Health and Climate research group within the Adaptation Lab research line.

Her research interests include the study of the interrelationships between the natural environment and human health, with a particular focus on the social determinants of health.

After completing her BSc in Biology at UPV/EHU Basque Country in 2018, she carried out a Masters in Ecology and Environmental Biology at the University of Glasgow. She then worked as a Research Assistant at the BC3 on a project on the emergence of AMR in the Basque Country, focusing particularly on the perception of livestock farmers and the role of the environment in the spread of AMR.

Estibaliz's PhD work in the BlueAdapt project will address the interaction between coastal pathogens and other environmental issues, as well as the social determinants affecting health outcomes. Her work will be carried out under a broader conceptualisation of the One Health context and the concept of syndemics.
