Gorka Bidegain

Gorka Bidegain’s expertise is in marine pathogen transmission, working for the Department of Applied Mathematics and Plentzia Marine Station for the University of the Basque Country. For BlueAdapt he is working on developing models and modelling scenarios to explore waterborne pathogen transmission and the risk of disease. Gorka’s wider research interests include the use of mathematical models to identify and assess responses to marine diseases.  His work is focused on the emerging marine diseases causing mass mortalities in marine invertebrates such as corals, clams, oysters, abalone, sea stars, etc., with a special emphasis on the physical and biological mechanisms and processes that underlie the generation of outbreaks. He is currently working on three research projects (National, UE, NSF) linked to pathogen transmission in marine organisms including invertebrates and seagrasses.
