Ionan Marigomez

Ionan Marigomez is Professor in Cell Biology at the UPV/EHU and Director of the Centre for Experimental Marine Biology and Biotechnology (PiE-UPV/EHU)

Ionan was honoured with the SETAC Europe “Outstanding Science Career Award 2020”, and is listed in the "Most Relevant Scientists of the Basque Science System 2016-2022" (Basque Council of Science) and in the “Stanford University Names World’s Top 2% Scientists 2021”. As Senior Researcher of the Consolidated Research Group “Cell Biology in Environmental Toxicology” since 2001 Ionan has published above 150 scientific articles (>85% in WoS Q1; H-index: 43).

His research expertise includes pollution monitoring and risk assessment (biomarkers, bioassays, ecosystem health índices), experimental ecotoxicology and ecophysiology, environmental stressors (metals, oil spills, pathogens), comparative histology and histopathology, bioimaging and analytical microscopy. He’s been Director of the UPV/EHU Doctoral Programme “Marine Environment and Resources” since 2003 and International Coordinator and Joint Prog Board Chair of the “Marine Environment Erasmus Mundus Joint Master” since 2005.
