Dr. Jon Sáenz is the Principal Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU. He is also a researcher for the Plentziako Itsas Estazioa (PIE).
Jon has co authored more than 70 papers (core WoS collection) with a Hirsch index of 22. He’s been the leader (PI) of six projects in the competitive National Research Plan, all linked to climatology.
For BlueAdapt Jon will contribute his range of experience working on atmosphere-ocean coupling and the use of climate data in the analysis of renewable energy production or environmental toxicology. This covers topics including coupled wind and wave energy production in remote offshore areas, the influence of environmental variables on biomarkers and the efficiency of coastal wave energy production.
Jon took part in the analysis of the global wind energy potential, the detection of long-term trends in offshore wind power density or the impact of climate variability in the efficiency of wave energy converters. He has also worked to address the estimation of offshore wind energy resources, the analysis of the closure in the hydrological cycle and the impact of the use of a data assimilation step in the simulation of convective instability. All these have been published in highly cited journals (Q1 or D1).
