Kevin Portune is a Technical Officer at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) and is the Scientific Project Manager for the BlueAdapt project, where he is responsible for managing the financial, administrative and logistical aspects of the project.
Kevin has a Doctorate in Marine Biosciences from the University of Delaware, U.S.A. and has worked in numerous research postdoctoral positions in both the U.S.A. and in Spain in areas of microbiology and bioinformatics, carrying out analyses of microorganisms in environmental and human and animal gut systems. His research interests include environmental/physicochemical factors involved in the proliferation and toxicity of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in coastal waters, characterization and optimization of microbial communities affecting contaminant removal efficiency in air purifying biofilters, and analysing the effects of diet and lifestyle factors on the human gut microbiome and physiological and immunological functions.
