Marco Martuzzi is the Director of the Environment and Health Department at the Italian National Health Institute in Rome. He is an epidemiologist with expansive experience in environmental and occupational studies. For BlueAdapt he will oversee the Health Impact Assessment and economic analysis of Italian case studies.
Marco previously worked at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the Imperial College School of Medicine (UK), the WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer (France), and at the WHO European Centre for Environment and Health, in Bonn, Germany. He was also Head of the Asia-Pacific Centre for Environment and Health of the World Health Organization Regional Office for the Western Pacific. Marco obtained a PhD in community medicine from the University of London, in 1996.
Marco currently specialises in the impacts of environmental risks and determinants on health and health equity, addressing pressing challenges like climate and ecosystems breakdown. He has been working in Health Impact Assessment (HIA) for two decades for WHO, including as a manager of the programme on environmental health impact assessment of the BONN Office of WHO Europe. He also informed the BlueHealth project’s Decision Support Tool (funded by Horizon 2020) .
