Stefania Marcheggiani is a molecular microbiologist. She’s been working as a researcher at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) since 2005, and at the Ecosystem and Health Unit of Environment and Health Department 2011.
She is a Principal Investigator for BlueAdapt where she will use her expertise in water-related pathogens, antibiotic resistance, biotechnologies sampling strategies and climatic changes to inform scenarios and case studies.
Stefania holds a PhD in Microbial Biotechnologies (2008) from the International SAS UNICAM. She has proven experience in studying the interconnection between aquatic ecosystems and health arising from exposure to water-related pathogens with the OneHealth vision.
Her scientific focus is on innovative molecular tools for detecting pathogens, AMR, and contamination in aquatic ecosystems due to global environmental change. She has been actively involved in European research projects (PULVIRUS, IntCatch H2020, BlueHealth H2020, µAQUA -FPVII, µPAD- FPV). Stefania is an expert in WG WATER Reuse, DG Santè subgroup, OH AMR and IAMPHI subgroup Planetary Health and One Health.
