William Gaze

Professor of microbiology

Professor Will Gaze leads the University of Exeter Medical School’s microbiology team who work on the environmental dimension of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), as well as animal and human resistomes. Originally a marine biologist, he has worked on pathogens of aquatic organisms, deep sea hydrothermal vent microbial communities before focusing on the interface between environment and human health. The team have received funding from NERC, BBSRC, MRC, DHSC/UKAid and Horizon Europe, and have informed national and international AMR policy, and have worked with the UNEP, WHO, EU and UK government. He currently sits on the Fleming Fund Technical Advisory Group and the UK AMR National Action Plan One Health Stakeholder Group.
