In extreme heat the ground becomes dry and hard, and then when it rains the rainwater flows into the sewers and mixes with sewage causing overflows into the ocean. Once the sunshine comes out, people spend time in the sea and could be exposed to harmful bacteria and viruses in the sewage overflow. Dr Jessica Kevill from Bangor University explains how BlueAdapt is testing samples from across Wales to uncover the risks.
